1. Create designs people actually want to buy

People buy shirts that say what they already feel. The best sellers are emotionally driven statements... the thing your customer would say out loud to her friends, her church, her family, her group chat.

  • Pick ONE person first. The nurse who's tired but proud. The mama of three. The HBCU alumni. The girl who loves Jesus and her coffee. Design for her.
  • Write what she'd say. Before you open Canva, write 10 phrases she'd actually say. Those ARE your designs.
  • Make 3–5 that go together. A collection feels like a brand. One random shirt feels like a craft project.
  • Check the comments, not just the likes. When people say "I NEED this" or tag a friend, that's a design worth restocking.

2. Price for profit (pay yourself first)

Add up everything one shirt costs you:

  • Blank shirt
  • Transfer (DTF, screen print, clear film)
  • Packaging + shipping supplies
  • Platform + payment fees
  • Your time (yes, your time counts)

The quick rule: aim for at least 2–3x your total cost. If a shirt costs you $9 all in, $25–$30 is a healthy price.

  • Price hoodies and sweatshirts higher... people expect to pay more, and your profit per order goes up.
  • Bundles (2 shirts, matching family sets) raise how much each customer spends.
  • When someone says your price is too high, that's usually a sign they aren't your customer. Keep going.

3. Lean into holidays + special occasions

Every holiday, event, and season is a reason for someone to buy a NEW shirt.

  • Plan 6–8 weeks ahead. Christmas designs go up in October. Valentine's goes up right after New Year's.
  • Personalized sells. Family names, "The Williams Christmas 2026," Mama and Daddy Claus, reunion shirts, birthday crews.
  • Don't forget the smaller moments: back to school, homecoming, graduation, teacher appreciation, Juneteenth, Mother's Day, breast cancer awareness, game day.
  • Keep a simple calendar of what's coming next and drop designs before people start searching.

4. Make your content feel like HER life

The posts that sell show your customer living her life in your shirt... so she can see herself in it.

  • Show the moment. The coffee run, the game day tailgate, the girls' trip, Sunday service, family photo day.
  • Call her out by identity. "For the nurse who just pulled a double..." She stops scrolling because she feels seen.
  • Talk to ONE person in your captions, like you're texting a friend.
  • Share the behind-the-scenes: pressing orders, packing boxes, a happy customer's photo. People buy from people.
  • Use one clear call to action per post: "Comment SHIRT and I'll send you the link."

5. Let AI do the heavy lifting

You don't have to do everything by hand anymore.

  • Design ideas: ask ChatGPT or Claude for 20 phrases your customer would say, then pick the best ones.
  • Mockups + product photos: AI can put your design on a real-looking model, hoodie, or flat lay in minutes. No photoshoot needed.
  • Captions + content plans: have AI draft a week of posts, then make them sound like you.
  • Your website: AI can write product descriptions, your About page, and even help build your store.
  • The back end: pricing math, email welcome messages, customer replies, and order follow-ups.
